The Weekly Hill Update - June 17, 2019

Below is the Federal Policy team's weekly preview, posted when Congress is in session.

HEADLINES

The House will continue working on appropriations bills, while the Senate continues voting on President Donald Trump's nominees and begins consideration of the annual defense policy legislation. Both chambers may address the migrant emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump will officially launch his reelection campaign and will host Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for meetings as the leaders seek ratification of the United States-Mexico-Canada trade agreement. HOUSE

The House is in session Tuesday through Friday. Lawmakers plan to complete consideration of a first package of fiscal 2020 appropriations bills and proceed to the next spending package. S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer will likely facing a grilling from lawmakers on the administration's threatened Mexico tariffs and stalled trade discussions with China when he testifies before the House Ways and Means Committee.
