Mobile Gaming Signed Into Law In New Jersey

Following up on an earlier post, today New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed S1323, a bill that, among other things, permits the use of mobile gaming devices within casino hotels.

The bill also makes a number of changes to the Casino Control Act, some of which are techincal follow-ups based on the 2011 overhaul of the Act. The bill creates another tier of license - the "ancillary casino service industry enterprise" license - applicable to vendors who provide services ancillary to gaming, including junket representatives. The Division of Gaming Enforcement may call forward any ancillary licensee and require that licensee to apply for a full casino service industry enterprise license.

The bill also clears up what was an ambiguous provision relating to the use of investment alternative tax revenues paid to the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority by casino licensees. Under the clarified provisions, all CRDA assets are now to be dedicated solely to projects within Atlantic City. Previously, portions of these funds were used for projects throughout the state.
