As a result of recent discussions within the health care industry, the JCAHO is launching the Shared Vision-New Pathways initiative, a new process for surveying health care organizations on an unannounced basis. The JCAHO will transition to totally unannounced surveys in 2006, beginning with pilot projects during 2004 and 2005.
