America's Oldest Lawyer?

Murray H. Shusterman was profiled in The American Lawyer article, "America's Oldest Lawyer?" Full text can be found in the July 27, 2015, issue, but a synopsis is below.

Murray, who graduated from Temple University in 1936 during the Great Depression, has been practicing law for 79 years. When he joined the firm as a partner in 1969, Fox had 25 attorneys. It now has more than 600.

Over his nearly eight decades of practicing law, he has had to adjust to quite a few changes in the legal field, including evolution of payment practices. "When I began practicing law, we didn't have the so-called billable hours program," he said. "And now everything is billable hours." Clients used to simply receive a bill for "services rendered," said Abraham Reich, co-chairman at Fox Rothschild.
