The recent prosecutions of HealthSouth executives under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act have highlighted just some of the sweeping impact the Act is expected to have on corporate governance and accounting reform. Conceived in response to corporate collapses resulting from accounting irregularities and perceived failures of ethics and controls in publicly traded companies, the Act was designed in large part to protect the interests of investors and enhance corporate oversight and accountability of publicly traded companies.
