JCAHO Changes Its Survey Practices

As a result of recent discussions within the health care industry, the JCAHO is launching the Shared Vision-New Pathways initiative, a new process for surveying health care organizations on an unannounced basis. The JCAHO will transition to totally unannounced surveys in 2006, beginning with pilot projects during 2004 and 2005. Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago requested to be the first to undergo the unannounced full survey, and will be followed by Ascension Health, Tenet Healthcare, the Veterans Administration, and North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.
